Back To Normal

Okay, so I know that 'normal' is a relative term (but not if you've met some of my relatives - Ha! Ha!). I like the way Barbara Johnson puts it -"Normal is just a setting on your dryer." Whatever the case, we are once again cast free at our house and so that makes things a little more normal - so to speak. These are the last two pics of Nathan's cast taken this morning before going in at 9:45 to have the cast removed.

Nathan was such a great little trooper having the cast taken off and x-rays taken again. His arm was a little stiff, which was to be expected after not straightening it out for four weeks. The doctor said that a warm bath might help the joint loosen up some so Nathan came straight home and took a nice warm relaxing bath - with his wiggly little brother, so it wasn't actually too relaxing.

Later after dinner Nathan got to have some water playtime outside. Here he is waving with his newly uncasted arm.

He was glad to once again be able to ride on his tricycle. Isn't that a great smile?!

As you can see in this video, when he's concentrating on something - like steering his trike - he straightens out his arm pretty easily but when he thinks about it he's still protecting a little. I think it's more out of habit than anything. He has to get used to being able to use it again.

Nathan had fun using his little shovel to splash the water out of the big yellow tub.

Benjamin finally got to join us outside. (He had some two-year-old tantrum type issues about eating dinner and he was told he couldn't come out to play in the water with Nathan until he ate a little. David sat at the table with him until he finally realized that he wasn't in control and ate so he could come out and play like we had told him he could. Hopefully he'll learn before too much longer that we're in charge and obeying the first time is always his best option.)

Nathan got to make a waterfall with the hose for a while. His shorts were a little baggy and kept slipping down. They had stayed up pretty well during the day but when they got wet and heavier they sagged a bit- looks like he's ready to roll with his homies.

Benjamin loves to dance and splash in the water and Nathan likes his trike - that's all fine and dandy as long as the two don't collide.

Speaking of colliding - that is actually one of their favorite things to do when they're both on their rides. We've got our own pee-wee version of a roller derby going on here. We urge them to "be careful" but so often with boys "careful" isn't even on their radar.

Here we are at the end of the evening - riding and drying off (you can see the hot pavement is already dry). It was a great end to a great day and we are so grateful to God for the healing of Nathan's arm.
