After the story was finished, we all went in to the arts and crafts room. Today the kids were instructed to draw a piece of paper with the name of an animal on it out of a bowl and then make that animal using simple shapes. (The pigeon in the book is very simply drawn yet can be surprisingly expressive.) The boys drew "turtle." I was glad we got an easy one. 
I first cut an oval out of green paper. Then cut it in half lengthwise and made the two turtle bodies and glued them on the boy's cards.
The boys drew the turtle's heads and legs and decorated their shells with colorful pom-poms resulting in two of the cutest turtle crafts I've ever seen. 
Benjamin enjoyed just drawing with the markers for a while at the end.
On January 19th we made a trip to the NCCIL for story time and crafts once again. The boys were excited and ran on ahead.

After the story "The Pigeon Finds A Hot Dog" our craft assignment was to cut out pictures of animals and food from magazines and glue them on a piece of paper and make a speech bubble where the animals say something about the food. Nathan cut out (with considerable help from me) a cute little puppy, a strawberry, a McDonald's happy meal, a sandwich, and a bag of SunChips.

As we were leaving and enjoying our walk down the sidewalk in the nice weather, we stopped for a photo opp with Dinosaur Bob and the little car on the building across the street from the NCCIL. In case you can't tell in the pic, Bob is wearing a Santa hat.

This shot is set up all wrong but I love the smiles on my boys' faces so I'm including it anyway.
