Fun at Balloon Fest - Friday night

Our foursome plus Grandma and Poppo went to the 13th Annual Balloon Fest at Redbud Park here in Abilene this past weekend. It was pretty windy so the balloons didn't get to take off Friday night but we had a great time at some of the kids activities they had set up.

First we let the boys ride the little Shetland ponies. Poppo walked next to Nathan on his little pony and...
I walked with Benjamin on his. They both thought that it was pretty cool to get to ride on a real pony.
Then we let them pet the animals in the little petting zoo. There were goats,...
(this one was really fluffy and soft - I guess he was a different breed that the other wiry haired ones)

pot-belly pigs,...

and rabbits. It's always a treat for us city folk to get to play with the farm animals.
The boys also got to ride in this cute little make-shift train with a golf-cart for the engine and moving dollies with fifty gallon drums cut in half for the cars.
I sure do like those two blondies in the back car - they are soooooo cute!
They did really well riding along together. I was pretty impressed at how well they did at staying seated and not trying to bail out. By the time they were doing this train ride the sun had gone down a little and it was just the perfect temperature for spending an evening outside.
The Energizer Bunny Balloon was there this weekend but they didn't set it up Friday night because of the wind. (We did get to see it Saturday morning early which will be my next post.) The boys got these free bunny ears from the crew for the balloon on Friday night anyway. I thought the boys looked super cute all bunnied up. We don't own much pink so maybe that made it a little extra specially cute.

We may have to pull these back out for our informal Easter pics next year (if the ears last that long - they're in with the other toys right now so they may bite the dust long before Easter, oh well.)
